I use the footpath that runs from Ham Manor Lane across the Ham Manor golf course and into the woods behind the doctors. I often encounter golfers and nearly always exchange a friendly greeting and all is well. If I can see a golfer is about to tee off I will wait at the top of the lane and only set off across the course when they've finished. I usually find that if I'm half way across then the golfers will wait till I'm clear.

Twice today (Sunday 14th) I was nearly struck by golf balls. At about 0930 one bounced past me at knee height, at 1120 one flew over my head. I am angry that in both these cases those golfers must have clearly seen that I was using the footpath yet decided to drive their balls at me anyway. Twice, in one morning.

Can any golfers on here confirm - are members and guests instructed to wait, if someone is using the path, until their field of fire is clear?

I've emailed the golf club to ask the same question. What is the etiquette here?

Mr.T

I extracted this from the website www.masteringgolf.co.uk
"Safety is another important consideration on the course. Remember that a golf ball travelling at speed is potentially lethal, so under no circumstances play a shot when another person is in line or nearby. Be aware of what is happening around you, or whether, for example, there is a green keeper up ahead who may be out of earshot.
If a person appears unexpectedly after you have made contact with the ball, call out an immediate warning of “fore” to give them time to take evasive action."

The problem of course is whether the players are golfers or merely poseurs.

Mr T - It maybe that you are a marked man, trying to encourage people to walk in that area

I've had a courteous reply and apology from the golf club which has assured me that footpath users should be given priority, which I am glad to hear.
