Has anyone else noticed how uneven the footpath along the side of Roundstone Lane opposite where the nursery is? We were walking back from the curry house last week and I fell (at 37 weeks pregnant....so not drunk!). It was unfortunatley a section where there are no street lights so you couldn't see that the path was very uneven.
Is this something the Parish Council should take on board? |

lizh, you could report the exact location to the Parish Council. Hopefully, the will pursue the matter on your behalf with West Sussex County Council who are responsible for roads and footpaths. |

Hope your ok Lizh, letter to the council there I should think!
I walked down there the other day to collect my car from Roundstone cars, its also very slippery when its damp as its covered in green moss/algae!! Glad my little boy was in his buggy. |

I agree 100% - It is very uneven, nearly turned my ankle a few times when out for a run. The trees could also do with a trim around that area too I find. |

Well I've emailed the parish council, so fingers crossed they will take it up for us. |

Well here is the response from WSCC
Thank you for your email forwarded to us by the Parish Council. I inspected the footway where you had your near accident yesterday. Although the surface undulates somewhat there are no defects at our intervention level. Yours sincerely,
Looks like you have to have a real accident before anything gets done! |

Even when people are injured because of poorly maintained surfaces WSCC couldn't care less. My grand-daughter fell on a rough pavement surface in Littlehampton earlier this year, breaking her forearm but WSCC denied liability & have still not repaired the surface. We did not engage the services of one of the many Claims management companies, that advertise their services, to pursue compensation, but I can empathise with victims that do, especially when you see the pathetic response by WSCC. |

Hi Lizh & others. You could contact Littlehampton Gazette and suggest they may like to run an article on this ? Sometimes the mighty WSCC can be embarrassed into the right action by adverse publicity ? |

Uneven tarmac paths, such as Roundstone Lane, are difficult to measure and that is why WSCC get away without doing anything. What they are actually trying to do is avoid paying compensation or even litigation!
Paved paths are easier to quantify. My late mother-in-law tripped over a raised paving slab in Worthing several years' ago and broke her wrist. WSCC would not agree to pay even minimal compensation or even repair the pavement because the raised slab was several millimetres below the set level on which they are prepared to act. |
