Dappers Lane Footpath

Arun District Council have announced that the long-awaited footpath on the east side of Dappers Lane is unlikely to go ahead as the developer who buily Swallows Gate, and were going to finance the path, has gone into administration.

The footpath was supposed to run south along the east side of Dappers Lane as part of agreed planning permissions for the 18-home development. However the route was later found to be undeliverable because part of the land needed was owned by nearby Crete Nurseries and was not under the developer’s control.

The Council estimate that constructing a new footpath would now cost at least £100,000. While acknowledging that a footpath would have provided valuable pedestrian links and encouraged sustainable travel, officers concluded the council could not justify absorbing the cost. The council's planning committee will make a final decision on the recommendation at a meeting on July 22.

New Puffin crossing near school

West Sussex County Council has given notice of the installation of a new crossing in Arundel Road, Angmering, at the pedestrian entrance to St Margaret’s C of E Primary School. A permanent Traffic Regulation Order will be made, the effect of which will be to remove the current School Keep Clear markings on both sides of Arundel Road, so they may be replaced by the white zigzag markings of the new crossing.

The council said: “The proposed new crossing is to be provided by the developer building new housing on land west of Angmering Road. Provision of the new crossing was required by planning consent for the development and is intended to improve pedestrian safety on Arundel Road, particularly for those travelling to St Margaret’s C of E School.
