Community Centre Film Night

The Great Escaper (12A)(2023) starring Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson will be shown at Angmering Community Centre's Film Night on Tuesday 23rd January 2024. Doors Open at 7pm for a showing from 7.30pm. Price: £7.50 per ticket. Tickets can be purchased online at – www.ticketsource.co.uk or via www.cinemobile.uk or from the Angmering Community Centre office (cash only). Refreshments will be available – cash only.

The film is based on a true story that made national news about pensioner Bernard Jordan who in 2014, absconded from his care home in Hove, Sussex, to attend an event in France marking the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings. After the local Police were notified the care home got a call that evening to say Mr Jordan had been found safe and well in France. He returned a few days later having made his way to the event.

Road closure

Old Worthing Road at the south of the parish will be closed for up to 13 weeks from 8 January 2024. The temporary road closure is required while Connect It Utility Services undertake electrical utility works for the new development. The works will be split into two phases with the first closure commencing on 8 January 2024 between Saxon Close and the Roundstone Bypass roundabout. Once that phase is complete the road will then be closed between Saxon Close and Arlington Crescent.

The works are due to last for approximately 13 weeks. Restrictions will be in place for 24 hours only from 00:00 - 23:59. Access will be maintained for residents and pedestrians. Buses will have to follow the diversion routes in place, which will be fully signposted. For details of alternative bus routes contact Stagecoach on 0345 241 8000.

Snippets from the draft minutes of Angmering Parish Council meeting of 8 January 2024

New bus shelter- The new bus shelter opposite Haskins Garden Centre should hopefully be installed in March 2024, according to WSCC.

Defibrillators- The two new de-fibs to be located outside Alley Cats and the ASRA Pavilion have been received and will be installed this week. APC will be fully responsible for both units.

Life saving rings - Two life rings have been purchased and will be placed at Mayflower Park next to the attenuation pond. Quotes are being sourced for their installation.

Care hone - Dappers Lane - Cllr. Verrinder and the Chair had attended a topping out ceremony at Aytan House, this is the new care home by Care UK on Dappers Lane. The Chair understood that the home should be completed in August 2024 and the first residents will be moving in from September.

2024/25 Parish Precept - The Clerk drew the committees attention to the supporting paper and clarified that APC were proposing that for the fourth year running there would be no change to the precept i.e. a 0% increase. A discussion took place including Cllr. Marsh commenting that APC needed to make sure people were aware that there has been no increase, especially with everything APC have been able to deliver in the last year. It was advised that a piece had been written for the APC Newsletter within the All About Angmering magazine to explain how the precept is calculated as well as other important information. After discussion the following was agreed: RESOLUTION: Cllr. Oldfield PROPOSED to approve the 0% raise in precept and keep it at £107.87 per Band D property for 2023/2024. Cllr. Marsh SECONDED and ALL AGREED.

Community Grant Applications- Two grants were submitted for consideration this month. • Victim Support – General fundraising - £250 • Honey Lane Allotments – Funding for a Defibrillator - £750.
After discussion the following was agreed: RESOLUTION: Cllr. Verrinder PROPOSED that a sum of £250 was granted to Victim Support. Cllr. Harris SECONDED and ALL AGREED. RESOLUTION: Cllr. Verrinder PROPOSED that a sum of £750 was granted to Honey Lane Allotments. Cllr. Harris SECONDED and ALL AGREED..

APC Charity of the Year - The six charities nominated by the councillors were discussed at length and after careful consideration the Lavinia Norfolk Centre, The Angmering School, Angmering was decided upon to be APC's next Charity of the Year. Details of how to apply for APC Grants will be given to those charities that were not chosen.
