Congratulations to Hallmark Care Homes for a further award it has received this week. Its Angmering Grange Care Home has won the 'Care Home Design' award at the esteemed Caring Times National Care Awards! This marks their third recognition for our design this year.
Don't forget that Angmering Grange is open to the public for its Community Cuppa event every Thursday between 10am and noon. Come along on your own or with friends for complimentary tea, coffee, and cake. Games, puzzles and newspapers available for use. Make new friends, meet old friends and enjoy the company of others in warm and welcoming surroundings.
The annual Village Christmas Traders' night - now known as "Angmering @ Christmas" - will be held on Friday 1 December commencing at 6pm. All roads into The Square will be closed to all vehicular traffic from 4pm so motorists living in the north of the village coming from the A259 will need to go via Roundstone Lane, Weavers Hill, and Dappers Lane to access their homes. Station Road will only be open to as far as The Thatchway.
The evening will commence with the annual hanging of memory tags on the Christmas Tree on The Green. Enjoy some festive shopping and activities around The Square, courtesy of the local traders. Indulge in some festive treats (come complimentary) while enjoying this year's new attractions. Visit Santa's Grotto and have fun on the various free rides, plus fun-fair side stalls, popcorn, candy floss, non-alcoholic mulled wine, and roated chestnuts. The Christmas mini markets will be there again, together with balloon modelling and entertainers.
Memory tags are available from the Parish Council Office, Angmering Library, Meat in the Square, Juna, Graham Butt Estate Agents, Cooper Adams Estate Agents, and The Lamb.
Parish Assembly - format for 2024-
The Clerk drew the committees attention to the relevant minute and why this
item was on the agenda. The main reason for changing the format of the current
meeting was lack of attendance from the public and that it could be tagged on
to the end of the Annual Meeting of the Council. In its current format, the
Parish Assembly had been tried for the last 3 years (excluding COVID) and
numbers had continued to dwindle, despite our best efforts. After a short
discussion the following was agreed: RESOLUTION: Cllr. Want PROPOSED that the
Parish Assembly was added to the end of the Annual Meeting of the Council, and
no longer a standalone event. Cllr. Verrinder SECONDED and ALL AGREED.
Community, Leisure, Employment and Wellbeing Committee (CLEW)- The Chair explained that at the last CLEW meeting it was suggested that monthly meetings were no longer needed along with the reasons why. Several suggestions on timings were given such as quarterly and bi-monthly. It was also confirmed that a working group could be set up with a decision able to be made at a Full Parish meeting if one was needed before a CLEW meeting was due to take place. After discussion it was resolved that CLEW meetings will be quarterly from 2024. The November and December meetings will take place as planned and then from 2024 a meeting will be held in March, June, September and December.
WSCC Proposed Traffic Regulation Order for Dappers Lane - RESOLUTION: Cllr. Want PROPOSED that APC agree with the proposal of the 20 mile per hour speed limit in Dappers Lane, and subsequent signage and road markings, and authorise the Clerk to confirm as such, Cllr. Bicknell SECONDED and ALL AGREED.
Community Grants Application - RESOLUTION: Cllr. Reigate PROPOSED that a sum of £667 was granted to The Angmering School. Cllr. Want SECONDED and 9 AGREED, 1 ABSTAINED and 1 OBJECTION.

I've recently completed two new Angmering history pages which can be found in the History Centre of this website (see sidebar index).
The first is entitled "The Victorian re-building of St Margaret's ....and the vanishing pulpit". This uncovers some fascinating new material about the sculptors of the supurb carvings of the capitals, the hidden robin, and exposes some myths on the overnight disappearance of the beautiful stone pulpit in 1911. The link to this webpage is:

The second new page is entitled "The Victorian building of William Older's Charity School .... and its transition to a Public Library". This also has new material and shows photos of features of interest both outside and within the Library. It also raises the question on the missing marble bust that was moved from the old school to St Margaret's CE Primary School in 1966. The link to the webpage is:
