On Saturday 26th August, Angmering residents and David Wilson Homes celebrated a successful opening of the brand-new playground located in the heart of Ecclesden Park on Water Lane. Attended by Councillors Sylvia Verrinder, Alison Reigate and David Marsh, all members of the Angmering Parish Council, as well as representatives from David Wilson Southern Counties alongside onsite and local residents, the playground is the latest addition to over six and a half acres of green open space at Ecclesden Park.
The playground consists of a variety of play structures, including swings, slides and climbing frames for families to enjoy as well as incorporating wildlife-friendly features around the area such as hibernacula to support the local environment. The event itself included a face painting artist and an ice-cream caravan, which offered a range of sweet treats for the attendees on the day.
Phil Hurring, Marketing Manager at David Wilson Southern Counties, comments: "It has been wonderful to welcome local stakeholders and the wider community onsite on Saturday to celebrate the opening of our first play area here at Ecclesden Park. Being just one of three designated spaces for play at this development, we hope the playground will become and focal point for our residents to meet with their new neighbours as the site continues to grow and provides space for children to let off some steam."
Currently available at David Wilson Southern Counties' Ecclesden Park development is a range of two, three and four-bedroom homes, with prices starting from £369,995 for a two-bedroom property. To find out more about David Wilson Southern Counties, visit www.dwh.co.uk or call 0333 355 8499.

Downs Way signs
Cllr. Reigate

walk around parts of Angmering, and to ask him about signs for Downs Way with

crossing over the A259.
Dappers Lane traffic - District Cllr. Worne asked about the council's position on the Save Dappers Lane Groups request to close the northern end of Dappers Lane to traffic. Cllr. Hamilton-Street advised that they were not in favour of doing this and that WSCC had already advised that it would not be in favour either. She went on to say that although the petition had over 1,000 signatures it was felt it was a closed question and didnt explore other options. Cllr Bicknell confirmed there were 5 options that could be explored. It was agreed that APC Councillors should meet with Cllr. Worne to discuss the subject thoroughly and for all points to be discussed.
Councillor Co-option- John Carey Bennett was introduced by the Chair and thanked for his interest in the parish council. Carey (sic) then went on to elaborate about why he wanted to become a councillor. The Chair asked who was in favour of John Carey Bennett being co-opted onto the council, all were in favour and John Carey Bennett was co-opted.
The "Angmering Pound"
Cllr Marsh
spoke through what he had seen regarding other villages/towns doing a similar
scheme, aimed at encouraging people to spend money in local shops. The scheme
was to try to counteract the loss in trade via road closures etc. The Chair
then advised what investigation work the Office Manager had done and the
highlights of such scheme as well as several issues. It was suggested that we
could look into funding for an Angmering Christmas Pound. All
councillors were in agreement. It was stressed that we would initially need to
speak to as many of our traders as possible to seek their views, as well as
look for sponsorship. Thanks to be given to Tracy for her hard work so far.

David Wilson Homes has won a gold award from the RSPB for its wildlife-friendly show home garden at its Ecclesden Park development on Water Lane in Angmering.
With safe habitats for garden birds and other wildlife in fast decline, David Wilson Southern Counties has pledged to create show home gardens for wildlife at its developments to inspire local residents to do the same, including at Ecclesden Park. To gain accreditation, the garden had to include multiple features to support and enhance nature and natural habitats. These include a dedicated hedgehog highway, a wildlife pond which is home to a family of ducks, bat and bird nesting boxes, flower patches with bee-friendly planting and native hedgerows. Signage has also been included in the gardens to help residents and visitors learn more about the habitats and initiatives in place.
Phil Hurring, Marketing Manager for David Wilson Southern Counties, comments: "We are committed to achieving so much more than building housing developments - and thanks to our ongoing partnership with the RSPB since 2014, we are able to create examples of how gardens can be vital refuges for wildlife and link up existing urban habitats. We hope that our residents will feel inspired to share their gardens with nature too, and we encourage them to check out the RSPB's resources through the Nature on Your Doorstep campaign for further resources."
RSPB Business Ecology and Conservation Advisor said: "We're so pleased that Ecclesden Park has achieved a gold standard wildlife-friendly garden. Our outdoor spaces have so much potential to provide food, water, and shelter to an amazing array of wildlife, and we hope that people will be inspired by this garden to give nature a home on their own doorstep."

The space would be designed so it was as low maintenance as possible. Currently the space is very overgrown, and quotes are being gathered to clear the area and level it. Donations will be asked for such as sleepers for raised planting beds and funding sought if possible. Councillors were asked to think about who could be approached.
