In a decision dated 26 July 2022, the Planning Inspectorate dismissed an appeal by McCarthy & Stone against the decision of Arun District Council to refuse planning permission for the above 33 apartments development, which also included a retail store and associated car parking on the old Chandlers garage site in Water Lane.
The Inspector found that the proposed development would be harmful to the character and appearance of the area and would cause less than substantial harm to the adjacent Grade II listed building (Eachways) and Conservation Area. Despite the fact that the Arun District Council could not demonstrate a five-year housing land supply, the Inspector found that the heritage harm was not outweighed by the public benefits of the scheme and provided a clear reason for refusing permission under paragraph 11(d) of the NPPF.

Angmering Flood Alleviation - APC had received confirmation that ADC and the developer Barratt David Wilson have agreed to divert the S106 money originally secured for the relocation of the Skate Bowl/BMX Track as this is now not needed. It will now fund the Angmering Flood Alleviation Scheme, rather than other projects in Arun, outside of Angmering..
Co-option for councillor vacancy- Cllr. N Hamilton-Street introduced Renee Hobson to the committee and thanked her for putting herself forward. After a short question and answer session Cllr. N Hamilton-Street advised the committee that it was now time to take a vote to decide if Renee Hobson should be co-opted. The question was asked, all raised their hands in agreement and Renee Hobson was officially co-opted. Cllr. N Hamilton-Street then advised that there would be an induction plan and advised that the office would be in touch. The Acceptance of Office form was signed by Renee Hobson and she was asked to join the meeting as a councillor, which she did.

Traders' Evening/Memory Tree Event - Cllr A. Evans explained that the local traders were all on board to go ahead with the Memory Tree event on Friday 2 December, although the vets were unable to attend. He also explained that work on the A259 would be finished, and this may affect the traffic for that evening. A long discussion then took place with the logistics of the road closures and potential access to hotel guests and placement of attractions. It was suggested that the APC office should perhaps contact all affected residents to explain all activities taking place including any road closures.
A.I.B. Tree donation -A discussion took place regarding where to plant 3 donated trees given to A.I.B from the Jubilee Fund. A representative from A.I.B explained that the planting of the trees concerned them as the trees needed to be planted soonerratherthan later. Cllr N Hamilton-Street explained thatthe APC office team would apply to WSCC for a license so planting could take place as soon as possible. Cllr Reigate then read out a list of ideas of where the trees could possibly be planted. Action: APC office to pursue the planting of the 3 trees with WSCC on the area opposite the Blue Star Roundabout.
Angmering Amble (10 September) - Cllr R Evans advised that he had received more funding from the Audi dealership and now had £450.00 in total to spend. It was reported that Juna had expressed an interest to take part in the event and the Rugby Club, as already advised, would put a game on to attract more people. It was suggested that all councillors go all out and really advertise this event alongside the Rugby Club. As with all events APC will advertise the event via social media, in the All About Angmering magazine and with posters placed in our noticeboards and office window..
Litter Bins in Mayflower Park - The quotes were discussed again at length and Cllr Bicknell proposed quote 3 and this wasseconded by Cllr R Evans. However Samantha Fraser then said that ADC Cleansing had been contacted and they would check to see if they had any bins in their yard that they would be able to supply to us for no fee. The Councillors agreed to wait until a response from ADC had been received.
St Nicholas Garden - A conversation ..... took place regarding the overgrown shrubbery in St Nicholas Gardens, and that it needed to be tidied up. Cllr A. Reigate asked for ideas. Cllr N. Hamilton-Street commented that she had been approached by the Youth Offending Service and that they should be contacted to help with the overgrown foliage as an annual maintenance plan needs to be in place.

We made our first visit to The Stone Room last Thursday but made a bit of a mistake in not booking. Fortunately we managed to get the last table which was outside. As luck would have it, it was a fabulous sunny evening and we welcomed sitting outside under the yellow/white awning with a glass of Shiraz - very continental! A carafe of water came as standard. The staff seemed to have been trained to the same standards as their sister restaurant, The Lamb opposite - polite, friendly, immaculately turned out, and efficient.
We shared the cheesy garlic bread and chutney as a starter - this was effectively an Italian-style small cheese & garlic topped pizza which was very nice. How people like their pizzas is, of course, very subjective. My main course was one of my favourites, the cinque formaggio pizza - about 10" - which, personally, was one of the best I have had and my wife's short rib cannelloni, served piping hot in a cast iron dish, with garlic bread was delicious. For a dessert, we shared a portion of the creamy raspberry cheesecake and a fruit ice cream scoop which was exceptional.
For a restaurant that has only been open for one week, this was impressive. Well done to the owners and the staff - a real asset to Angmering. However, do make an advance booking, especially in the evenings.
