New Restaurant opens

After 9 months in planning and construction, The Stone Room opened in the village centre yesterday (Wednesday). The restaurant specialises in pizza and pasta dishes but will be offering other dishes (viz. antipasta, salads, sides, desserts) as well, plus a cocktail bar. Owner of both The Lamb and The Stone Room, Lee Newbon said: "This is a new venture for us and although we are very experienced in offering hospitality, we have a totally new staff at The Stone Room. The team will be under the control of Managing Partner Martin Newbon and our excellent General Manager Gemma Mason. We are excited, in our kitchen, to welcome the services of Head Chef, Elliott Barber and Sous Chef, Michael Harrison who are both very knowledgeable pizza chefs. They have been working hard in our new modern open kitchen and have created some wonderful menu options. We also welcome Danny and Louie who join us as shift supervisors. In addition we are so pleased to welcome back to the team Sadie Phal who is so well known for her long period of service as one of our senior team at The Lamb and whose experienced as a senior supervisor at The Stone Room will be invaluable."

Lee added: "There is still some wall decoration to be finished and this will be undertaken over the next few weeks."

A full menu will be displayed on their Facebook and Instagram pages, as well as their website when it becomes live. For the first week they will display their menu at the front of our premises. It should be noted that bookings will not be possible through their social media pages or messaging services.

Opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday 12noon to 9pm. They will be closed on Mondays. In the near future they plan to open 7 days a week, offer fabulous breakfasts at weekends and eventually introduce a pizza take away service. Bookings can be made on 01903 770685.

Angmering Village Life wishes The Stone Room, its management, and staff, every success with their new venture.

A259 Update

The latest update this week now says that there have been some small delays in the construction of the A259 widening, and completion is not now anticipated until early December 2022. A West Sussex County Council spokesperson said: “The A259 is a strategically important corridor for utilities, with high-pressure gas mains, trunk water mains, lots of telecoms cables and high-voltage electricity power lines. These works could only be done by the utility companies themselves, and so a large part of the job has been co-ordinating and facilitating these activities”. The council said ‘much of this apparatus was ageing’ and ‘needed to be moved and replaced’ outside of the footprint of the new road.
