Local housebuilder David Wilson Homes has donated £1,000 to Angmering-based charity Cancer United . David Wilson Homes are currently building some 175 dwellings at their Ecclesden Park development to the south of Water Lane. The donation was made as part of David Wilson Southern Counties' Community Fund initiative, which sees the housebuilder reinvest into the local communities surrounding its developments. Earlier this month, the housebuilders made a donation of £1000 to Angmering Community Centre (see news article dated 4 March).
Cancer United aims to help individuals and their families whose lives have been changed by a cancer diagnosis, offering social environments where people come together to improve physical and mental wellness. The charity offers fitness training that is tailored towards the patients' needs and capabilities with their cancer-specific gym, the first of its kind in the UK. The donation from David Wilson Southern Counties will help the staff continue to lead the tailored fitness sessions, such as swimming, football, and general exercise classes, which are available in person or online.
Kimberley Benson, Sales and Marketing Director for David Wilson Southern Counties, commented: "As a community-oriented housebuilder, our goal is to ensure that local residents have access to vital services such as active recovery groups and emotional wellbeing support for those that need it. Cancer United is an antidote to the loneliness that a cancer diagnosis can create, by bringing people together and forming a united front to combat this disease."
Jan Sheward, Founder and Chair of Cancer United (see photo above), commented: "I wanted to create a place where those with cancer could find comfort and guidance, whether it's simply for a chat over coffee or to take part in other events, like our bi-annual OutRunCancer run, or our fitness and singing classes. The donation from David Wilson Southern Counties will help us to sustain the unique and valuable work that we do."

Replacement of iPads - Cllr. N Hamilton-Street explained why the current iPads needed to be replaced (originally purchased in 2015). They have continued to save the council money in both paper and printing costs and cost less then £50 in the last 3 years to maintain. All 4 quotes were discussed and questions asked regarding cases, use of a keyboard and how the process of swapping the iPads would work so that Councillors would not be without them for too long. Tracy Lees explained the process and this was accepted. After a lengthy discussion the following was agreed. RESOLUTION: Cllr. Bicknell PROPOSED that option 4 (not published ....Ed) should be taken. Cllr. Marsh SECONDED, and ALL AGREED
Honey Lane - Funding for resurfacing - Cllr. N Hamilton-Street explained this has been an on-going issue for many years and referred people to the supporting paper. A representative for the Honey Lane Allotment Committee was present at the meeting and it was explained that the Residents had conducted structural plan pulled together by a WSCC approved/preferred supplier. Cllr. N Hamilton-Street talked through the amounts being given from each party and the amount of shortfall, a lengthy discussion then took place. The member of the Allotment Committee asked what due diligence APC will undertake on the repairs, Cllr. N Hamilton-Street explained that as the inspection and works would be carried out by an approved contractor from WSCC. The general feeling was that the repair work should be done as Honey Lane was used by the community and not just the residents of the lane. Concerns were raised that if the landowner was asked to contribute would this mean the rent for the allotments would be put up. Cllr. N Hamilton Street said we can only look at the situation as it is now. She also suggested that a contribution from the landowner should be insisted on and equal to what APC would be contributing. The Clerk said that the request for CiL money to the SDNP had still not come back and if it was not granted the situation would need to be re-assessed. RESOLUTION: Cllr. N Hamilton-Street PROPOSED that APC earmark £10,000 to contribute to the repair of the lane and that the landowner be contacted to do the same. Cllr. Harris SECONDED, and ALL AGREE

Angmering Community Centre has received a £1000 donation from David Wilson Homes, which it will use to help its clients who have been through difficult times during Covid-19 restrictions. The housebuilder, who is currently building its Ecclesden Park development less than a mile away from the centre on Water Lane, made the donation from its Community Fund, which was set up to support initiatives, organisations and activities in the region.
The centre, which is located on Foxwood Avenue on Bramley Green, operates at the core of the Angmering community, offering a number of classes and groups for local residents. During the first half of 2021, the centre also functioned as a major vaccination centre, having provided vaccines to over 37,000 individuals in the surrounding area.
David Wilson Southern Counties' donation will allow Angmering Community Centre to continue to be a safe and supportive social hub for the community. Kimberley Benson, Sales and Marketing Director for David Wilson Southern Counties, comments: "Angmering Community Centre has been a vital centre-piece for the local community, so it is a pleasure to see that in early April it will open its doors once again for classes. Grassroots centres such as these are often the starting places for young talent to flourish and develop new skills, so as we help the community to grow by delivering new homes, we are also proud to invest in existing facilities for residents."
Judith Cross, the Chair of Trustees at Angmering Community Centre, comments: "Our Centre has been of great benefit for the community, providing residents with the opportunity to try out new activities and meet people, while allowing the most vulnerable in the area to access much-needed support. We thank David Wilson Southern Counties for investing in us. Their donation will be used to support groups who look to expand their selection of activities throughout 2022."
