Angmering Village Hall celebrates RAF centenary

Angmering Village Hall Committee will be holding a short ceremony at the Village Hall in Station Road on Saturday 2nd June from 10.30am. The raised bed in front of the car park is being planted up with the RAF roundel, by Ferring Nursery, to commemorate the RAF centenary, and the planting has been funded by Angmering in Bloom. The accompanying plaque will be unveiled by one of the ex-RAF personnel who will be coming from Princess Marina House and tea/coffee/cake will be served afterwards in the King Suite with access from the newly landscaped garden at the side. All are welcome.

The wording on the plaque is:

"Royal Air Force Centenary The Royal Air Force (RAF) the United Kingdom's aerial warfare force was formed towards the end of the First World War on 1 April 1918. It is the oldest independent air force in the world. It played a large part in the Second World War where it fought its most famous campaign, the Battle of Britain."

The landscaping of the garden will have progressed as far as it can by 2 June but the Committee is having trouble sourcing the particular variety of tree agreed with Arun DC as the replacement to the felled Monterey Pine. They will have another little ceremony later when that is to be planted! The hard-landscaping has been funded by The Angmering Heritage Trust.
