Due to continued high volumes of trade The Lamb at Angmering is expanding its bar area adding additional covers for dining and drinking. Plans drawn up by Liz Gallaway, the Managing Director of Caldotec in Angmering On Sea, have been passed to extend the Grade II listed building, by adding an Orangery to the North end of the property. The contract has been awarded to Local builder 'Cloud9', with the fittings contract and interior design going to the original launch designer, Tracy Neal, a Director of Melling Ridgeway and Partners.
Its been an exciting start to the month for The Lamb at Angmering. It was notified by the Good Food Guide earlier this month that it would be included in the 2016 Guide. Only 22 restaurants in the county of West Sussex made the guide this year which is recognised as the leading publication on restaurants in the UK.
Martin Newbon representing the Newbon family, The Lamb's owners said, "Both Liam Reilly, our General Manager, and Richard Cook, our Executive Chef, have worked so hard to gain entry into The Good Food Guide, it has been a great team effort. We are so delighted that our purchase from Punch Taverns back in 2011 has proven to be such a success. We opened for business after a total renovation in April 2012 and the village of Angmering and surrounding area's have given us such very strong support. However, we have become very aware that our bar gets very busy and cramped at times, so the development of our Orangery will add considerable comfort for our customers with more freedom to move around and will give them more seating options".
Due to the renovation, which starts on Monday October 26th, The Lamb will close for 1 week for Health and Safety reasons whilst the foundations are being laid. The Gastro Pub will reopen to customers on Monday 2nd November at 11am. The build will continue and is set to totally complete by Monday 30th November. The Christmas menu is now available and hard copies are available at the bar, or to individuals by emailing info@thelamb-angmering.com. The South and South East in Bloom Awards were held at the AMEX Stadium in Brighton yesterday (Friday). The Angmering in Bloom Association was awarded a Silver Gilt - the same as last year. The Association has once again been extremely pleased with the growing interest and the continued positive response they have received from Angmering residents this year, as well as the support from their Sponsors and local businesses.
The Association is looking forward to continuing their work in the coming year with some new projects and fundraising events in the pipeline as well as their existing ones.
Co-option of New
Councillors
Following brief discussion, on a proposal by
Councillor Verrinder, seconded by Councillor Harris, it was unanimously AGREED
to co-opt Peter Thompson as a Parish Councillor.
Community Land Trust
This is
progressing well. There will shortly be a need to start the process of trying
to secure properties and to determine how they are going to be allocated to
local people. There will be a need to encourage others to take part in the
project and it is envisaged that a process of public engagement will take
place.
BMX Track Opening Event
The
Chairman noted that the matter before the Council for consideration was to vote
funds for the provision of toilets, first aid and related facilities for the
open day. On a proposal by Councillor Phelon, seconded by Councillor Oldfield,
it was unanimously AGREED that [additional] funds could be expended up
to a maximum of £1,000 as per the proposal in the agenda.
On the matter of vandalism, it was noted that the Maintenance Committee now needed to give active consideration to the installation of CCTV in the 5 area. The Clerk noted that this would be taken forward as appropriate.
JEEAC Highways & Transport
Group
WSCC had announced that it would no longer be able to
provide the necessary administrative support for the group. Following
discussion, the Clerk noted that it would be sensible for the Parish Council to
volunteer to take on the administrative role for the first year. Much of the
forthcoming work affected the Parish area in any case. In addition, by doing
this, we might avoid a repeat of the situation that had arisen with the new
Chandlers site, where a s278 agreement had been finalised, which had not been
seen by anyone on the area committee. It was AGREED that Councillor Mountain
could revert to the Working Group and volunteer the services of the Parish
Council for this.
The Clerk noted that this was one aspect of a wider question over the future of the area committees generally. In recent weeks the Parish Office had had increasing difficulty in getting the County Council to carry out statutory functions with regard to maintenance of public rights of way, safer routes to school and the like. This was part of a general withdrawal of service by the County Council, in respect of which the Clerk was in correspondence with County Councillor Urquhart.

CALA Homes, have recently acquired the former West End Nursery site in Roundstone Lane, formerly occupied by VHB and most recently trading under the Vitacress brand. In order to obtain residents views on them, prior to submission of a detailed planning application, CALA Homes will be holding a public exhibition with regard to their plans for the development of the site. This exhibition will take place in Angmering Village Hall on Saturday 26 September between 9.30 am and 3.30 pm. A copy of the flyer for the exhibition can be downloaded by clicking here.
Angmering Parish Council has been contacted by planning consultants acting on behalf of Caffyns plc, who have acquired an interest in a site adjacent to the Haskins Garden Centre on the A259 with a view to redeveloping the site as an Audi showroom and workshop. The project team will be holding a public exhibition of the proposals, in order to obtain residents views on them, prior to submission of a formal planning application. This exhibition will take place in Angmering Village Hall on Friday 18 September between 2.30 pm and 6.30 pm.
A copy of the flyer for the exhibition can be downloaded by clicking here. The comment cards referred to in the flyer will be available at the exhibition; the consultants have also provided a small supply of them to the Parish Office. Mindfulness Meditation is a western, secular, research-based form of meditation derived from a 2,500 year old Buddhist practice. In recent years modern medicine has come to show, through robust scientific study and research, that the use of meditation can have striking benefits for those suffering from stress, anxiety, depression and chronic pain. In more recent years, Mindfulness Based Approaches have been developed to help those suffering from addiction, eating disorders, alcoholism and victims of abuse.
The pace of modern life can be so frantic that most of us would benefit from taking a little time out for ourselves. Having the opportunity to take stock, gives us the chance to appreciate our lives even through difficulties. Mindfulness Meditation is potentially of benefit to all, as it may aid in prevention of both physical and mental illness. Indeed it is hard to see who would not benefit from a more Mindful approach to life.
For the last year Sam Cross of Arun Mindfulness has been leading a popular Mindful Meditation group from the Angmering Community Centre. She says: "In this form of meditation you are simply invited to be with your breath, physical sensations from your body and sounds. It accepts that your mind will wander, over and over again, as that is what minds do, but you simply recognise this and gently bring yourself back to where you were previously focusing. This is the appeal of this practice, it is gentle and invitational. It is simple, but not easy. Anyone can meditate, all you need is a mind, body and your breath. It is not easy, because like any other "self help regime" it requires discipline. Meditation can only help you if you actually do it, regularly. This is why I have been running the drop in group for the past year: to support graduates of other courses with their home practice".
The following new courses are available from October 2015 at the Angmering Community Centre:
Mondays - from 5th October, 7.30 - 9.30pm for nine weeks
Wednesdays - from 7th October, 9.30 - 11.30am for nine weeks
The first meeting of both courses is a free introduction to mindfulness to ensure that this is right for you. If you then decided to continue the cost is £170 pp, with discounts for multiple bookings. This will include all course materials. Please contact Sam on 07475 770 949 or sam@arunmindfulness.com for booking a place or for furher information. Her current web address is arunmindfulness.com although this is currently being updated. Pre-booking is essential as she am limiting the numbers within each group, and would love to talk to you before you meet.
