He was released from his vehicle after about 30 minutes by crews from WSFRS's Worthing station using hydraulic rescue equipment. It is understood the boy sustained a back injury but it is not thought to be be serious.

Over Monday evening to Tuesday morning, there are expected to be gusts of wind between 60--70 mph and Angmering residents should make the necessary arrangements to secure their property. Rain is predicted to be persistent and heavy at times. The rain will eventually clear away to the east early on Tuesday morning to leave sunny spells and one or two showers. Cloud, wind and rain overnight will keep temperatures well above freezing. At present, there does not appear to be a risk of flooding in Angmering, but the Environment Agency and Angmering Parish Council are monitoring the situation at Black Ditch and other run-off areas.
Rydon Homes Ltd of Forest Row has issued a "Vision Document" for 500 in Angmering plus an area for business users in the north-east of the village on either side of Water Lane stretching all the way up to the A27. If Arun District Council gave permission for Rydon to develop this land, and if the other proposed developments in Roundstone Lane went ahead, Angmering could face the horrific prospect of some 1200 new houses being built in the parish up to 2029.
Arun District Council's cabinet member for planning, Cllr Ricky Bower, has stated that the Council would look unfavourably on a planning application that was not allocated for housing in the Local Plan. However, local residents are wary of any statements emanating from a discredited District Council that clearly ignores the wishes of the local community. On the surface, Arun District Council could see this latest proposal from Rydon Homes as a threat to their intention to push ahead for 600 houses to be built on the east of Roundstone Lane but alternatively, behind the scenes, may also like to encourage Rydon Homes and then refuse their planning application in the belief that Angmering residents would be relieved that "only" 600 new houses would be built and then relax their opposition!
Developing the locations proposed by Rydon Homes is likely to have a direct and adverse impact on the area which the Environment Agency has identified as a Flood Zone.
Angmering residents will be pleased to learn that, from Thursday 2 January, Café Feliz will be extending their opening hours. From that date, the café will be open from 8.30am to 4.30pm (Monday - Saturday). Hot food will be served until 2.00pm.

Has anybody got any photos of their grandfathers or great-grandfathers who lived in Angmering and who served in the forces during WW1 (died or survived)? The year 2014 sees the start of an international project to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 1914/18 War (not the victory) and most villages and communities are trying to contribute in some way to this project.
I'm putting together data on all known such individuals from Angmering - currently about 150 - and will probably publish these on the AVL History pages. However, I would love to have some photos to give a face to these brave men. If you have such photos, or just information about any Angmering WW1 serviceman, please send these to me at editor@angmeringvillage.co.uk
The photo above is of Frank Cox of Lee Farm, kindly sent to me by
Cindy Belchamber, Frank's granddaughter. Frank served in the Royal Sussex
Regiment and, although badly wounded, survived the war and went on to marry and
have six children

Angmering Short Mat Bowls Club (ASMBC) achieved its first major trophy yesterday (10 Dec) when it won the Goring Invitation Fours Tournament (GIFT) organised by Foxwood Short Mat Bowls Club. The team won six out of seven games in the fourteen week series, finishing with eighty five points, five points ahead of second place. ASMBC received a cheque for £200 which is to be donated to Chestnut Tree House, the children's hospice, which is located in Angmering.
Two teams from ASMBC entered the tournament and were competing against twelve other clubs from the Worthing and Littlehampton area, many of which play competitively in the Worthing Short Mat Bowls League. Angmering's winning team comprised Gill Archer, Tony Lago, Georgina Oakley, Barbara Froom, and Graham Scutt (shown l-r in photo). After the win Club Captain, Tony Lago, said: "We are still in a learning curve ourselves but by playing teams who play regular league games, we are showing good results and proving that we are able to hold our heads up as with the GIFT result and a fine recent win over Norfolk. This was a very big achievement in the Club's short history."
ASMBC - a non-league club playing only friendly matches - was only formed in 2009 with the opening of Angmering Community Centre, the Club's base. The Club has 60 members and there is currently a waiting list of people wishing to join. The bowling facilities at the Community Centre are the envy of many other clubs in the Worthing/Littlehampton area. However, this was only made possible by the persistence of founder member, Don Harris, who fought long and hard during the Centre's design stage in 2007/8 to get the Parish Council to extend the dimensions of the main hall to accommodate the length of mats necessary to play short mat bowls. Today, the Centre is also the base for the Foxwood Short Mat Bowls Club (previously Goring SMBC). The use of the Centre for short mat bowls is a substantial contributor to the Centre's financial stability.
Café Féliz has just changed hands and is now being run by friendly ex-serviceman Martin, and his son Lewis. It is hoped that villagers will support their new venture and use the café. Just to get the café up and running and to build up experience, they will be keeping things the same at present but may extend the current opening hours in the New Year.
Martin and Lewis will open the café for the Traders' Christmas Evening on Wednesday - do give them a warm welcome to our village and try one of their bacon butties that they will be selling.

Angmering Parish Council currently are experiencing problems uploading changes or documents to their website which is hosted by Arun District Council (see News item 29 November below). Until the problems have been resolved, Angmering Village Life has offered to make Council minutes available through its own host's servers. You can now read the draft minutes of the Council's full meeting on 11 November and other related documents by clicking here. The PDF file contains the following:
As Christmas approaches, read the amazing story how another carpenter's son, Sydney Charles Tomlin, rose from a lowly bandsboy in the Royal Artillery to become the Military Commander of Rome - with the non-substantive rank of Brigadier - and later became one of Angmering's most revered and loved residents. Equally amazing is the included story how his wife, Margaret, gained rapid promotion from a clerk in the ATS to become a Chief Commander.
After WW2, "Tommy" Tomlin established a nursery business at Broadlees in Dappers Lane, Angmering and tirelessly worked for St Margaret's Church, the British Legion, St Margaret's School, various charities, and other local organisations, supported by his most able wife, Margaret. In fact, he was "Mr Angmering" for many years.
This new illustrated booklet,"Col Sydney Charles Tomlin (1894-1985) - Server of Country, Church and Community" written by Neil Rogers-Davis - owner/editor of the Angmering Village Life website - is available from Monday 2 December in Woodies News, Angmering Framing & Stitches, or from the author (Tel: 771935), price £2.
At their 29th November meeting, the Arun Local Plan Sub-Committee voted to recommend to the Full Council that a total of 3660 homes be built in the area. This would include 600 for Angmering plus the addition of the Parish Allocations, which, for Angmering is 100 houses. So the total would be 700 for Angmering.
Of Angmering's two District Councillors who sit on that Sub-Committee, Councillor Paul Bicknell voted against the recommendation but, for some unknown reason, Councillor Andy Cooper decided to abstain which is causing anger among Angmering residents.
The Sub-Committee Chairman refused a request to read out an email send to Cllr Ricky Bower (Cabinet Member for Planning and Infrastructure) by our MP, Nick Herbert, strongly urging the Committee to set a realistic housing number which properly recognises local constraints on delivery, and to reject the 'strategic' housing allocations at Angmering and Barnham/Eastergate. In his email, Mr Herbert considered the Strategic Housing Market Assessment (SHMA) process adopted by the Council to be flawed and added "Angmering has already expanded substantially, and 500 further houses will put even greater pressure on infrastructure, especially local roads."
