(scroll on down for latest news)
With the exception of normal Monday collections, which will be carried out on Mondays, all other collections will be one day later than normal, so (for example) normal Tuesday collections will be made on Wednesday for both Christmas week and the following week. The last day of collection for Brown Bins (green garden waste) will be Friday 21st December and collections will resume on Monday 7th January 2012. You will not be able to dispose of your fir or pine Christmas tree as refuse unless you are a member of the Green Waste Club.
Shops and services openings in Angmering will, of course, be limited over the Christmas/New Year holiday. Here are a few opening times:

A WSF&RS crew from Worthing attended the scene of a burning car in north of Water Lane (near entrance to equestrian tunnel to Patching) at 4.43am on Saturday (29th Dec). The car was completely destroyed in the blaze and, as the fire was considered deliberate, the matter was handed over to the Police.
Canon Mark Standen, Rector of St Margaret's Church writes: "Due to the wet weather we've had this week, and expected to continue over the weekend, we are not able to hold the Open Air Nativity on Fletchers Field this Saturday (22 Dec) at 5pm. Instead, we will transfer the Nativity to the Church at the same time (5pm) and there will be space for up to 400 people to be there.

Sussex Police are seeking a woman they want to interview about allegations of fraud and the theft of a car. 56-year old Joann Kathline Wood, who has also used other names such as Jo Oliver and Sarah Whitlaw, was last seen at a house where she had been living in Arundel Road, Angmering, on 1 October.
Police were first contacted the following day, and are investigating allegations of theft of various household and valuable items from that address dwelling and five fraud offences, including one that a local woman had recently been defrauded of £3,000, and another that a local man had been defrauded of £6,500. It was also been reported that a car loaned to the woman was not returned. It has since been found at a garage in East London.
Wood is also known to make claims, none of which are true, that she is a doctor or a vet, with connections to the police or the army. Wood, of whom police are publishing a photograph, is described as white, 5"6', of medium build, with short, grey hair, and wears glasses. Her details have been circulated to all police forces, and enquiries are being made to trace her. Police have received information that she had stayed at bed and breakfast establishments in Weymouth, Dorset, last month, allegedly leaving without paying, and caught a bus to Exeter on Friday 30 November. There have been no sightings since then.
Detective Constable Jane Mills of West Sussex CID said; "We are working with other forces to find Jo Wood, and if anyone has any information as to where she may now be, we ask them to contact us via 101 quoting serial 0502 of 2 October. You can also call your local force on 101, or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
Further to our news item of 13 November, it is now understood from Compass Bus that ASDA's free A6 bus that comes through Angmering once a day will stop on request at ANY official bus stop on its designated route through the village and not just in Chantryfield Road as was believed. The designated route is the same as the Stagecoach No.9 except that the ASDA bus does not stop at Haskins.
The bus is scheduled to leave Chantryfield Road at 10.43am and the return bus leaves ASDA at 12.40pm. Both have a journey time of 6 minutes. Dependant upon which bus stop is used in the village, the departure time will be a minute or so before or after the scheduled time at Chantryfield Road.
It is also understood that ASDA will be reviewing all of their bus services after Christmas.

Proposed Pram Race
The organiser
of this proposed event, Michael Johnson, was welcomed to the meeting and spoke
to Members on the current position with regard to this charity raising event,
which is being supported by The Lamb at Angmering. There will be an after event
in the car park to The Lamb with live music, and food and refreshments offered
for sale, and some prizes will be provided. The proposed date for the event is
August Bank Holiday 2013. A number of questions were asked by Members and
Councillor Verrinder stated that it would be important that residents were
consulted and their concerns taken into account, particularly if there were
objections, and Mr. Johnson agreed that this was intended and he would also be
speaking to the local Schools and holding a public consultation at both The
Lamb and the Community Centre.
Graffiti competition for the Skate

The Assistant Parish Clerk confirmed a contact at Angmering
School had been provided and a discussion on progressing this project
requested. Members were asked to consider the prizes to be awarded, i.e. how

are made. One suggestion was for vouchers, and Councillor Verrinder requested
that Members consider this and it can be discussed at the next meeting..

Councillor Bos. A second contractor had also requested a fee for attending a
site visit and providing a detailed quotation, and Members AGREED unanimously
to payment of this fee.

Further to our news item yesterday, the 70-year old Angmering pensioner who walked into the River Arun has now been named as Peter Hooker. Sadly, he died later in Brighton Hospital last night from hypothermia as a result of being exposed to the near freezing water temperature.
Traders' Evening was held yesterday on a lovely dry but crisp evening. Most shops, the Library, the Parish Council, and the Church, made a superb effort in welcoming residents and/or offering free drinks and food. New this year was the folk group "A Bang on the Ear" who entertained villagers in Jeffrey's Hairstylists. However, it was clear that the numbers of the public attending this year's event was down for some reason. As in previous years, there were a number of motorists who did not understand the sign "Road Closed" and who insisted that they should be allowed through, but this did not cut any ice with the security officials! Here are some images from last night:
The winning ticket numbers in the Raffle are shown below. Prizes are to be collected from Angmering Framing & Stitches in The Square.

A 70-year old Angmering man was rescued by the RNLI early this afternoon (Wednesday) after walking into the River Arun from Rope Walk, Littlehampton. He was treated by paramedics at the lifeboat station. Police will attemp to establish the reasons for the man's action. (Source: Littlehampton Gazette - click here to read more about this incident)
This is a reminder that tomorrow night (Wednesday) is the Village Traders' Christmas Evening and all roads into and from The Square will be closed to vehicles from 5pm to approx 9.30pm. During these times, there will be NO access to The Square from Station Road, Arundel Road, Church Road, Water Lane, or the High Street.
From 9.45am tomorrow morning, there will be no car parking spaces available between Angmering Framing & Stitches and the Maverick Hair & Beauty Studio as a large funfair ride is being set up in that location.
The annual Village Traders' Christmas Evening will be held next Wednesday (12 December) between 6pm and 9pm. Most of the shops will be open, many of them giving away free wine, sausage rolls, and snacks. Over the years it has grown considerably, and now the whole centre of the village is closed off to traffic, to enable more entertainment and for people to wander about safely, without having to dodge the traffic!
Santas Grotto will be in Woodies Newsagent shop and this year Santa has said he will be bringing some really interesting gifts for all the children who visit him. Santa is free to visit and children will be able to choose a gift from a selection available.
There will also be the usual Colins's Amusements Funfair which adds great atmosphere and fun for all and, of course, the usual candy floss and hot chestnuts. Additionally, there will be a Lucky Dip in The Wardrobe, and there will also be a folk group performing in Jeffrey's. St Margaret's Church will also be open again for refreshments, as will the Library who normally have some books for sale. And don't forget The Lamb if you would like something a bit stronger! Last year it was closed for the massive refurbishment by its new local owners.
The Tombola, which will be held in the Parish Council office, will be huge and consists of 100 prizes this year including a slow cooker, picnic sets, PC bags, cuddly toys etc.
The Raffle will be held outside Holmes Estate Agents as usual, although tickets will be available on the night in most of the shops. 1st prize this year is a Nintendo Wii ; second prize £50 note ; 3rd prize Magnum of champagne, then vouchers from Shaffiques, The Wardrobe, and Meat in The Square, plus a voucher for Sunday lunch for 2 at the Lamb. Tickets are currently on sale at Woodies, Dawn's, The Wardrobe, Meat in The Square, Big Fry, Cafe Feliz, Regency Patisserie, and Angmering Framing & Stitches.
This is a great evening for all the family - make sure you do not miss it!
Angmering Community Choir, which was formed at the beginning of this year, is progressing well but would ideally like some more members. The choir was established in partnership with West Sussex Music Service. It meets between 5.45pm and 6.45pm each Thursday at Angmering Community Centre, Foxwood Avenue. They are just looking for people who enjoy singing for pleasure. Singers may not have wonderful voices; there is no audition. They don't even have to be able to read music. A teacher from West Sussex Music Service leads the choir.
You can hear them singing the "Take That" hit "Rule the World" this week on YouTube by clicking here.
Angmering Library is to close temporarily next month while new self-service book machines are installed. It is part of county council plans to modernise the service by fitting the state-of-the-art terminals in all of its 36 branches.
The library, in Arundel Road, will be closed from 1pm on Friday 4 January to upgrade its IT and electrical systems and accommodate the new equipment. Readers will still be able to borrow up to 20 books or DVDs before the temporary closure or use nearby branches in East Preston, Rustington and Littlehampton. It will then reopen at 1pm on Monday 21 January.
Lionel Barnard, County Council Deputy Leader who oversees the Library Service, said many readers in West Sussex were already seeing the benefits of the new machines. He added: They also help cut down on long queues and make borrowing a quick and simple process. The temporary closure will last no longer than 18 days to keep disruption to a minimum.
A/112/12 - Outline Application for demolition of the existing glasshouses, ancillary buildings and hardstanding and redevelopment of up to 195 dwellings with associated access, public open space and landscaping. Departure from the Development Plan. West End Nursery, Roundstone Lane. For: West End Property LLP.
A/124/12/TC - Remove large branch of 1no Judas tree by 1.82 metres within the Angmering Conservation Area at The Old House, High Street. For: Mrs A Daymond.
Observations on this/these Application(s) must be received by The Head of Planning Services, Arun District Council, The Arun Civic Centre, Maltravers Road, Littlehampton, West Sussex BN17 5LF by 27 December 2012.

Co-option of Parish
Councillors
On a proposal by Councillor Mountain, seconded by
Councillor Mariner it was RESOLVED that Peter Spooner be co-opted as a member
of Angmering Parish Council. Mr. Spooner signed his declaration and joined the
meeting as a councillor at this point. On a proposal by Councillor Mountain,
seconded by Councillor Mariner it was RESOLVED that Councillor Spooner be
elected as a member of the Leisure and Planning Committees.
Chairman's Report (extract)
I am
pleased to advise that we have just received the results of our housing needs
survey which will be evaluated over the next few days and a comprehensive
document posted to the parish web site very shortly. This document clearly
shows a small need for affordable housing of various sizes for the people of
Angmering and no need for large estates of private homes with 50% designed as 4
and 5 bedroom houses.
Public Consultation (Bramley Green
Roads)
The question was asked of whether there was any
notification of when the remedial works would be carried out on the Bramley
Green roads. The Clerk read out an email received that afternoon from Highways
Department:- "Further to your recent telephone call, the orders have now been
placed for the works at Bramley Green and they are scheduled to commence on
Monday 2nd January 2013. There will be a pre-start meeting in December 2012
with WSCC, the groundworker and the developer, at which time the content of the
letters to residents that adjoin the TRO works will be ratified and the letter
will then be posted out giving prior notice to those closest to the works".
Appointment of new Administrator/Committee
Clerk
Claire Fullman was introduced to all and welcomed as the
new occupant of the position..

St Nicholas Garden - Project
The
Chair had progressed this project and held a site meeting with a member of the
Worthing Archaeological Society who agreed to assist with the mapping out of
the ancient church of St. Nicholas which is sited within the garden. Councillor
Francis PROPOSED the setting up of a Working Party, with invitations to join
extended to members of the public, and this was SECONDED by Councillor Turner
and agreed by Members unanimously. Councillor Francis advised Members that the
Working Party would take forward: Survey of the Garden Drafting a
project plan Sending out invitations to the local Schools
Reporting back to this Committee and contacting Arun District Council to seek
any permissions required.
St Nicholas Garden -
Access
Councillor Francis advised members that site visit had
taken place with the Parish Council Chairman, Councillor Steven Mountain,
herself and Martin Newbon of The Lamb at Angmering, together with the Assistant
Parish Clerk on the proposals of the owners of the public house to move the
access to St. Nicholas Gardens. The meeting follows the attendance at a
previous Environment Meeting on 25 July 2012 when these proposals were verbally
made. It was added that plans were to be provided but not received, for which
apologies had been received from The Lamb and it was noted that the flint wall
was already damaged at the point in question but that any moved access would
affect an existing tree. Councillor Biss raised the question of ownership of
the wall and Councillor Francis stated that investigations are ongoing with
Arun District Council, the freeholder of the Garden. It had also been requested
that a dog bin and related signage be moved from the current location to a less
visible site within the garden and any subsequent agreement to move the access
would have ensure adequate access by a large mower or skip. Councillor Turner
asked who is paying for the work in question and Councillor Francis replied
that this would be negotiated with all the necessary legal aspects.
Mayflower Park
Access to
Mayflower Park The report of the Assistant Parish Clerk on the replacement
of a bollard and the need to move the gates at a cost of £380 was
noted.
Maintenance Members noted the repair to the Sustainable
Drainage System at a cost of £295.00 had been completed today. It was
further discussed that the Reed bed needs to be thinned leaving plants at
either end, and Members were advised that our own staff would be able to carry
out this task, subject to a Health and Safety assessment and suitable clothing
being purchased. The debris to be removed with the green waste collection.
Jubilee Crown Following the vandalism to four of the fruit trees,
Members AGREED to delay replacement and inspect the trees in the Spring.
Councillor Francis stated that consideration may have to be given to better
protection and larger trees.

The annual Village Hall Christmas Market on Saturday enjoyed some fine weather. The Market this year raised at total of £1122.49 which will go towards new wall lights in the Hall's King Suite.
The Barratts/David Wilson Planning Application A/82/12 for 150 houses east of Roundstone Lane, which was due before Arun District Council's Development Control Committee on 12 December, will not now be heard at that meeting and will probably now be tabled at their meeting on 16 January.
An Outline Application by West End Property LLP for demolition of the existing glasshouses, ancillary buildings and hardstanding and redevelopment of up to 195 dwellings with associated access, public open space and landscaping at their nursery south of Worthing Rugby Club will be advertised by Arun District Council (ADC) later this week. The Planning Application is No. A/122/12 and any observations must be submitted to ADC by 27 December, 2012. The Save Angmering Village group are urging villagers to object to this proposal providing similar objections to those used for the above Barratts/David Wilson Application plus the fact that there would be the loss of jobs, and the loss of a thriving horticultural business - both of which are much-needed in Angmering. It is understood that up to 85 jobs could be lost, West End Nursery being one of the biggest employers in Angmering.
