October 2012
The next film to be shown at Angmering Community Centre is "J. EDGAR" (2011) [UK15] at 7.45pm on Saturday 13 October - doors open at 7.30pm.
The film stars Leonardo Dicaprio as J. Edgar Hoover. Hoover was the head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation for nearly 50 years. He was feared, admired, reviled and revered, a man who could distort the truth as easily as he upheld it. His methods were at once ruthless and heroic, with the admiration of the world his most coveted prize. But behind closed doors, he held secrets that would have destroyed his image, career and life. poster
Tickets priced at £5 are available in advance from the Community Centre Office, Woodies News, and Angmering Framing & Stitches, or at the door (subject to availability).
The November film will be the commedy "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen".
It is learned with regret that Mr John King died on 21 September after a long illness. Mr King served as Angmering Parish Clerk from 1961 to 1967, and then had three spells as Chairman of the Parish Council (1975-76, 1980-82, and 2006/7). In recognition of his services to the Parish, Mr King, who was 86, was elected a Freeman of the Parish in 1994, one of only three people to have received this accolade. The King Suite at the Village Hall, which was financed by the Parish Council and opened in 1989, is named after Mr King and his wife, Glenys. More recently, Mr King had been Chairman of the Angmering Camera Club which was formed in October 2010.
A Service of Celebration of Mr King's life will be held at St Margaret's Church on Monday 1st October at 2.00pm. All are welcome.
Fancy some fun at a Quiz Night with some friends or as a village club/organisation team? Well, Angmering in Bloom are holding their Autumn Quiz Night on Saturday 6 October at the Village Hall between 7pm and 10pm. Here's an opportunity to support the Angmering in Bloom Committee that worked so hard in getting the village a Silver Award in the 2012 South and South East In Bloom Competition, and to help raise funds for the 2013 competition.
The Committee is looking ideally for teams of six to enter the Quiz but individuals can take part as well, or possibly become part of a team on the night. There will be prizes for the winners.
Tickets cost £6 per person which will include a light buffet - you can also bring a bottle if you wish. There will also be a raffle on the night. Tickets are available from the Parish Council Office, Woodies News, or Angmering Framing & Stitches. poster
Here is a reminder that objections to the Barratt David Wilson Homes Planning Application No. A/82/12 for 150 houses to be built to the east of Roundstone Lane, must be lodged with Arun District Council by this Thursday (27 September). If you are against this building proposal, you should write a letter to Arun District Council without delay. Assistance in writing a letter of objection can be found on the Save Angmering Village website. SAV say that if this application is allowed to proceed, it will set a precedent, and eventually the entire green land east of Roundstone Lane will be covered with up to 800 1,000 houses!
As has been stated elsewhere: "All that is necessary for unsustainable development to triumph, is for the good people of Angmering to do nothing!"

The Angmering In Bloom Association (AIBA) has today issued the following press release:
"On the 13th September, once again the Angmering In Bloom Association were thrilled to receive a "SILVER" award on behalf of the Village, on entering the South and South East In Bloom Competition for the second year. Thank you Angmering! Without your tremendous support this would not have been possible. The Judges particularly enjoyed visiting The Lavinia Norfolk Centre, where they were treated to "roast potatoes" which the children had grown and cooked themselves. Considering the difficulties we have sustained this year with the wet weather and flooding, the Judges were very impressed by how beautiful the Village looked and also the care and maintenance of the Allotment site at Honey Lane.
We have welcomed the sponsorship from our local tradespeople, especially in the present difficult economic times, from Arundel Road Garage, Ferring Nurseries, Haskins Garden Centre, Holmes Estate Agents, Rabbit Waste Management, Woodies Newsagents and Meat In The Square. We very much appreciate the many raffle prizes and donations our Village Traders and Businesses, as well as local residents, have given to support us, and the generosity of those attending our events, when two Quiz Nights were held last Winter, followed by a Jubilee Table Top Sale in June. We hope our next Autumn Quiz Night (poster) on 6 October, will be another successful evening.
We would like to continue the momentum and gain more supporters next year. If anyone is interested in sponsorship or volunteering, please contact the Parish Office, The Square, Tel: 01903 772124 for further details."
A reminder that Angmering Community Fête 2012 will take place on Mayflower Park, Bramley Green (south) this Saturday (15 September) between 10.30am and 4.30pm. This is the rearranged fête replacing the one that could not take place on 14 July due to waterlogged ground.
There will be a programme of arena events throughout the day including Reedland Retrievers (Gun Dogs), Birds of Prey, Choi Kwang Do, a display by the Sussex Tornados, and more! There will be many stalls and sideshows run by village organisations or their representatives, competitions, pony rides, as well as "Funfair" rides for children and refreshments including morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea, and a bar.
Organisers hope that residents from all parts of Angmering will come and support the fête. Some parking will be available in the car park at the south of Mayflower Park. Vehicles would access this via Mayflower Way (off Roundstone Lane by the car sales lot). poster

The Angmering in Bloom Association (AIBA) awards for Best Front Garden and Best Allotment Competitions this year by courtesy of Haskins Garden Centre, who very generously sponsored the event on 17 August. Joint winners for the Best Front Garden were Michael and Naomi Collis of The Spotted Cow. The other joint winner was Margaret Goulding who had a lovely colourful front garden. The runner-up prize was awarded to Val Jerram.

The Allotment entries were particularly good, especially in view of the difficulties experienced with the extreme weather conditions this year. The Best Allotment prize was awarded to Janet Price and due to the quality of the entries, two runner-up prizes were awarded to Jeniffer McAvoy and Derek Bray-Cotton.
The judges of the Competitions were Ivan Drew, Mary Millam and Richard Perry, who spent several hours visiting the gardens and allotments and debating the outcome. Kirsty Goble of Haskins presented the prizes to the lucky winners; the afternoon and especially the cream tea, was very enjoyable! The Angmering In Bloom Association wish to thank Haskins for their sponsorship and also the participants for making the event so special.
