1851 Census
The 1851 Census was the first one covering the whole of England that gave details of occupants' sex, relationship with the head of the household, marital status, accurate age, occupation of all occupants, and place of birth and, for those reasons, is arguably the most important Census to date.
The details from the Angmering Census shown below were extracted by Mr RW Standing as part of a study of the village's buildings and were never intended as a resource for family history researchers. As such, only the head of household is shown with age and occupation. Notwithstanding that, we feel that even this reduced information could still be most useful to family history researchers and the Society is indebted to Mr Standing for this data. Note - the number in the first column does not bear any relationship to the schedule number in the actual census document.
Angmering Village Life has the whole of the 1851 Census and would be happy to do a "look up" for readers if they would like further information.
