This afternoon, March 28th,we tried to drive out of the Dell at 3.25pm to go to Littlehampton for a service at Littlehampton Baptist Church at 4.00pm. It was impossible to get out of Greenwood Drive and almost impossible to turn left or right out of Dell Drive as the traffic was backed up from the A259 and was also queing going into the village. We did eventually get onto Station Road and went via the High St and Roundstone Lane to get to the A259. From leaving our home on the Dell and getting to the A259 took 20 minutes. Is it not about time that APC and West Sussex Highways did some something about the traffic problems in Angmering? Perhaps remove the ridiculous pinchpoints or put signs at each end of Station Road saying "Angmering Village only" or perhaps closing the right turn off the bypass into the village and making the right turn 200yds further along the bypass; this may just deter those drivers who are using the village as a rat run. Something needs to happen soon.

At one time APC were going to consider possibilities of re routing school traffic from The Dell. What was once a village school has far outgrown its neighbour. Double yellow lines mean nothing. Perhaps it is time to consider making new entrance/exit to the school, possibly from Roundstone By Pass. Maybe entrance before the traffic lights and exit after ? |

Sadly, I suspect that the Highways Agency and Arun District Council just turn a blind eye to all the complaints about traffic congestion around the schools. Likewise the pinch points that are a constant source of stress at all times of the day. Heaven forbid that there is a severe incident at any one of the three schools, Arundel Road or The Dell during the end of the school day - emergency vehicles would have an impossible task in making a quick response. |

Yes I agree Pansy, also at the other entrance of Angmering School in Rowan Way, where the parents double park at end of school day, no chance of an emergency vehicle getting through, or residents being able to park. |

Mmmmmm!!! Not sure the school was the major cause of the problem as the queue was still there at 17-30. As stated by Pansy the pinch points are a definite part of the problem including the drivers who insist on blocking them. However it obvioulsy does not affect the powers that be, so they are likely to stay until we get an APC that is strong enough to push the issue. |

Getting rid of the pinch points (without having another traffic calming solution) won't cure the problem, it will just encourage more drivers to use the road and their speed without any restriction will be dangerous. What is needed for all of Station road are cameras to catch and fine the rat runners who clog it up. They would make a fortune and once fined it might deter them from coming back! |

Hi Bluebell
A very good suggestion , two speed cameras, but how do we get APC and Highways to act and listen to those of us who live in Angmering and have to put up with those who are using the village as a rat run? Whilst I agree that we need another form of traffic calming through the village we need to get rid of the pinch points because with the increase in traffic going through the village they are very dangerous |

Roosterbri; instead of your incessant criticisim of the APC for not solving the traffic problems or, for that matter, any other bone of contention in the parish, why don't you apply to join the council and you can then "push the issue". Let's see how you get on! Most of the councillors do their best for the parish despite ADCs best efforts to sabotage anything that is good for the community. The councillors give their time and energy free of charge and do their best and all they get is sniping and back biting! |

Crazypaving, your support of APC is touching but, I would suggest, not shared by the majority. It is clear that it is a Council divided with a somewhat pathetic 'power struggle' evident - you are either pro or anti the Chairman. Hardly an environment which encourages others to put themselves forward.
Think it's a case of "If you can't stand the heat ......" |

I think a lot of people are too fixed on addressing the issue of traffic through the village by just looking at the cars that turn off the A259. Root cause - Problems on the 259 start in general at the "Blue Star" roundabout and continue to the Large Roundabout east of the Haskins garden centre. 2 lanes of traffic converging into a single lane on this strip. Drivers go "oh, its probably quicker to cut through the village than to go on to the by pass turn off". There is your issue. Pinch points can control the speed but not the volume. Now can any one think logically about what the best solution to a single lane congestion is. Not rocket science from where im sitting ( Not in a queue on the A259 thats for sure). |
