Is it within the remit of the APC to pursue WSCC/Highways Agency re the dualling of the A259 from Station Road Roundabout to the By Pass Roundabout?
It would be reasonable I believe to have this completed ASAP in view on the no doubt increased volume of traffic from the new Haskins and the potential increase from the proposed ASDA.
This would also, I suspect, help to relieve the congestion/bottle necks at these roundabouts and the one by the Roundstone Pub.
Or is this already in hand? |

Thank you for your question Roosterbri, and apologies for taking so long to get back - had too many meetings!
The A259 is purely a West Sussex County Council highway, nothing to do with the Highways Agency. Angmering Parish Council have had the dualling of this piece of road on its radar for some time and have been making representations through the appropriate channels, the main one of which is the Joint Eastern Arun Area Committee (JEAAC) and its Highways and Transport Sub-Committee. The result has been that the dualling of this road has been placed at the top of all priority lists produced by West Sussex, but always with the caveat that it can only be done if developers pay for it.
This brings us to the subject of how much further development the village can stand and whether making the dualling conditional on future further houses is right anyway.
You may be aware that the Parish Council has undertaken to prepare a Neighbourhood Development Plan and that this very subject is part of the discussion taking place within that. If you want to see more detail on what is being discussed by the Plan Highways Working Group, please use link http://www.angmeringparishcouncil.gov.uk/main.cfm?type=ROADSTRANSPORTMINU where the minutes can be accessed.
Many thanks
